Job summary

Brightsmith is seeking a Commissioning Manager to lead the commissioning of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects across the United States. You will manage plans, schedules, and testing of HV, SCADA, and related systems, coordinating with engineering, construction, EPCs, and vendors to ensure safe, compliant turnover to operations.

The role requires extensive experience in PV, storage, substations, protection and controls, and a strong understanding of industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum eight years of experience commissioning utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Strong knowledge of photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage, substations, HV equipment, protection and controls, SCADA.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specs, and construction docs.
  • Familiarity with commissioning software, reporting tools, and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of NERC, NEC, IEEE and other industry standards.
  • Excellent project management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple contractors and vendors across complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, and contract exhibits for solar, storage, HV, substation, and SCADA systems.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities among engineering, construction, operations, EPCs, vendors, utilities, and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee field commissioning personnel and third-party testers during testing and startup.
  • Test and verify electrical, mechanical, communications, SCADA, inverter, transformer, tracker, battery storage, and substation systems.
  • Coordinate testing schedules with utilities and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Review installation quality and verify performance against designs and specs.
  • Manage third-party testing, inspections, and commissioning consultants for regulatory compliance.
  • Develop commissioning plans and LOTO procedures; ensure EPC safety compliance.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with engineering teams and manufacturers.
  • Track punch lists, document commissioning activities, maintain records, support project acceptance.
  • Ensure safety and regulatory compliance in all commissioning activities.
  • Support turnover with training and documentation for operations.
  • Collaborate across engineering, construction, operations, development, and asset management teams.
  • Perform additional duties to support project delivery.
