Job Purpose

We are seeking a visionary Vice President of Data to set the direction and resource allocation for our data organization, with significant impact and importance to the company. This executive role will be responsible for multiple functions and departments related to data management, analytics, and strategy. The ideal candidate will develop and implement highly strategic plans and objectives aligned with company strategy, driving data-driven decision-making, advancing our analytics capabilities, and ensuring the overall integrity of our data ecosystem.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with the company's overarching goals and objectives.
  • Oversee direction, strategic and tactical decision-making, and resource allocation to ensure effective, efficient, and successful achievement of objectives.
  • Develop strategic plans to ensure successful implementation and outcomes of action plans and objectives.

Team Development and Management:

  • Direct and control the activities and projects of multiple functions through multiple levels of management.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing data team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Manage a team of high-performing Senior Managers and Directors or a team of high-performing senior Individual Contributors.

Data Governance and Compliance:

  • Establish and enforce data governance frameworks ensuring data quality, security, and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the functional area, company objectives, competitive environment, and technology/economic/social implications.

Advanced Analytics and Business Intelligence:

  • Drive the development of advanced analytics and business intelligence capabilities to provide insights that inform strategic business decisions.
  • Analyze complex data situations requiring in-depth knowledge of the functional area and company objectives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with other departments, including marketing, operations, and finance, to ensure data is effectively utilized across the organization.
  • Interact regularly with executive-level leadership, often involving highly visible activities such as presenting to a wider company audience, c-level group, and potentially Board Members.

Technology Leadership:

  • Evaluate, implement, and manage data management and analytics technologies that enhance our data capabilities and efficiencies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to maintain a competitive edge.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Present data strategies, insights, and progress to executive leadership and key stakeholders, ensuring alignment and support across the organization.
  • Demonstrate high skill in negotiation, presentation, influence, and relationship building to positively impact matters of great significance to the company.

Organizational Culture:

  • Model the RBG Values and Ways of Working and set an example for tone and communication standards across the company.
  • Hold other leaders accountable for creating and cultivating excellence in effective conversations across the organization.

Perform all other duties as assigned to meet team's objectives and ensure business operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related field; Master's degree or MBA preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in data management and analytics, with at least 7+ years of people management experience and leadership responsibility.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in data analytics tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of data governance, privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR), and industry best practices.
  • Analytical Acumen: Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a proven track record of leveraging data to drive business success.
  • Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Industry Insight: Experience in the travel or tourism industry is highly desirable.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams across multiple functions and departments.
  • Strategic Vision: Proven capability to develop and implement strategic plans aligned with company objectives.
  • Budget Management: Experience in full ownership and responsibility over functional budgets to meet corporate and finance requirements.
