Job summary

ElevenLabs, a remote-first AI research and product company, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and operate scalable safety systems, APIs, and internal tooling. You will collaborate with ML and safety teams to deploy models, build robust cloud services, and maintain end-to-end systems.

The role emphasizes owning the architecture, ensuring reliability, and delivering high-quality safety features across platforms.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Strong backend API design and scalable services.
• Proficiency in Python and modern backend frameworks.
• Experience building distributed cloud-based applications.
• Comfortable owning systems end to end from design through deployment and maintenance.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Build safety systems, moderation tooling, and guardrails for AI agents across ElevenLabs products.
• Partner with Investigations to identify threats and improve detection mechanisms.
• Own production safety services, including architecture, deployment, monitoring, and reliability.
• Deploy and integrate ML models into production safety systems with scale.
• Develop backend services, APIs, and internal tools for moderation and policy enforcement.
• Collaborate with Product, Legal, and Safety Policy to translate requirements into scalable engineering solutions.
• Shape architectural direction for safety infrastructure as products and users grow.
