Job summary

2K is seeking an experienced backend engineer to join NBA 2K's server-side team. You will own backend services across distributed systems, large-scale computing, and high-performance databases to power online experiences for millions of players.

You will design scalable architectures, optimize multithreaded services, and collaborate with frontend and design teams to deliver low-latency, reliable online gameplay. A BS in CS and strong C++ and Python skills are expected.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on backend and server-side systems.
• Strong proficiency in C++ with solid understanding of object-oriented programming.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Perl, or Ruby (preference for Python/JS).
• Understanding of distributed and scalable systems.
• Experience with multithreaded programming and optimizing for real-time, high-availability environments.
• Experience researching, evaluating, and integrating emerging technologies to enhance performance and product innovation.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience in large-scale software development.
• Experience developing secure transaction systems (e.g., virtual currency, account-based features) is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with online gaming architectures and live service design.
• Working knowledge of SQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL or similar).
• Video game console development experience is a plus.
• Passion for video games and willingness to work in a fast-paced gaming environment.
