Job summary

Spotify is hiring a Backend Engineer for Music to shape the experiences of millions of listeners and creators. You will design and run production backend systems, build scalable services and APIs, and maintain Java services and Scio pipelines used across the Spotify app.

You will collaborate with Data Engineers, Backend Engineers, and product/design partners to deliver reliable systems. Remote-friendly with some in-person meetings, US-based posting includes a base salary in the six-figure range.

Qualifications

• Experience with Java or another JVM language.
• Experience building distributed, high-volume services in production on a cloud platform (preferably GCP).
• Comfort with system design, data structures, and algorithms; ability to use data to inform architectural decisions.
• Experience with data engineering or machine learning is a bonus, not required.

Responsibilities

• Build and run production backend systems that improve how listeners discover and enjoy music videos.
• Design, develop, and evolve scalable backend services and APIs for high-traffic parts of the Spotify app.
• Develop and maintain Java services and Scio data pipelines used by millions of listeners daily.
• Partner with product managers and engineers to solve complex problems and deliver scalable backend systems.
• Contribute to system design, code quality, and reliable, well-run systems as part of a cross-functional squad.
• Explore and experiment with AI tools available at Spotify to improve build and ship processes.
