Job summary

Elevance Health through Carelon Medical Benefits Management seeks an Associate Medical Director - Post Acute Care to lead clinical decisions for post-acute care and ensure timely reviews. The role supports a schedule with limited in-person requirements and weekend coverage, with virtual full-time options and training sessions as needed.

The position requires an MD or DO with board certification and an active medical license; 3 years of clinical experience post residency is preferred, with PM&R

Qualifications

• MD or DO with board certification approved by ABMS or AOA is required.
• Active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine.
• Minimum 3 years of clinical experience post residency; inpatient post-acute care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures timely completion of clinical case reviews for their board certified specialty.
• Makes physician to physician calls to gather medical information for medical necessity determinations.
• Makes medical necessity determinations for grievance and appeals for their specialty.
• Ensures consistent use of medical policies when making medical necessity decisions.
• Brings to their supervisors attention, any case review decisions that require Medical Director review or policy interpretation.
