Job Description

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Mentor and coach new team members as we assign new projects in New Construction.
  • Remodel design and layout sprinkler systems using specialized CAD software packages based on the AutoCAD platform.
  • Coordinate sprinkler system piping with other building components and perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards to the design and/or layout of the sprinkler systems according to building type, construction type, hazard classification, and architectural features.
  • Perform field checks of completed designs to verify accuracy when required.
  • Work closely with the Estimation Department, Design Manager, and Operations Manager to review the scope sheet and requirements of each project.
  • Coordinate projects to meet delivery dates.
  • Communicate with AHJs, contractors, and other trades.
  • Coordinate with team members for listing of required materials.
  • Coordinate with team members for permitting and inspection requirements.
  • Actively participate in pre‑design and review meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for cost‑saving measures and quality improvements.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and procedures to ensure all duties are performed in a safe and professional manner.
  • Provide outstanding customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience designing fire sprinkler systems required.
  • NICET Level I – IV certification preferred.
  • RME‑G a plus.
Work Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of Fire Protection Design experience or a Fire Sprinkler Design degree.
Skills and Competencies
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; HydraCAD preferred.
  • Ability to visualize 3‑D concepts and solve basic mathematical problems, including geometry and algebra.
  • Proficient in interpreting and applying applicable NFPA standards and in reading construction documents.
  • Experience with a variety of system types and manufacturers.
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes such as IFC, NFPA, IBC, and NEC.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced service/construction team environment.
  • Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
Licenses

Must obtain and retain any licenses required by national, state/province, and local codes.

Physical Requirements
  • 75% office setting (sitting, some bending, modest lifting, walking, and viewing).
  • 25% driving.
