Job summary

Partners In Care's Hospice House in Bend, Oregon, seeks a compassionate RN to provide nursing and supportive care per the plan of care, and to coordinate with the care team and educate patients and families in a hospice setting.

We offer relief/casual shifts with day and night options, a collaborative interdisciplinary team, and a strong emphasis on dignity, empathy, and high-quality patient care in a nonprofit community-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Valid Oregon RN license.
  • Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and TB test.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • 1–2 years of recent medical care in an institutional setting; home health/hospice preferred.
  • Valid CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Apply nursing principles and techniques; provide nursing care, emotional support, and education to patient and family/caregiver.
  • Develop and implement patient care plans; coordinate case management with physician’s plan of treatment.

Additionally, Hospice House in Bend, Oregon, is a specialty hospital for inpatient hospice care, creating an oasis of tranquility and comfort for patients and their families. Status: Relief/Casual (hourly, non-exempt) - less than 23 hours per week. Relief/Casual employees must offer a minimum of four shifts per month, including one night shift and one weekend shift.

Hours: Day Shift: 7:00 AM-7:00 PM and Night Shift: 7:00 PM-7:00 AM. Additional shifts, including day, night, and weekend shifts, may be available. Available shifts are based on departmental needs and are subject to change; a fixed schedule is unavailable for this role.

Location: Hospice House in Bend, Oregon.

Summary/Objective

The Hospice House RN will identify patient/family/caregiver needs and provide nursing and supportive care in accordance with the plan of care, and policies and procedures.

Essential Functions
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Apply nursing principles and techniques in the treatment of patients. Provide nursing care, emotional support, and education to the patient/family/ caregiver. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, family and caregiver information.
  • Is responsible for the implementation and continued development of the patient care plan and physician's plan of treatment and is responsible for the case management of the patient.
  • Supervision of all Certified Nursing Assistants and Volunteers.
  • Follow the guidelines for universal precautions when providing patient care and demonstrate proper techniques in application of infection control standards.
  • Maintain records of services performed and of apparent condition of patient, using documentation guidelines and standards set forth by the facility.
  • Communicate with physicians and others as needed to coordinate and ensure high quality care. Communicate on a regular basis with all staff / volunteers regarding patient status.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the dying process and recognizes the importance of and maintains professional boundaries.
  • Provide for a safe environment for patients, guests, visitors, and employees and adhere to all policies, procedures, and regulations regarding patient care, conduct, safety, fire, security, and risk management.
  • Participate in weeknight and weekend on-call duties as defined by the on-call policy.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to the PIC mission and values. Supports the organization.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Valid Oregon RN License.

  • One to two years of recent medical care experience in an institutional setting. Ideal candidates will possess 1-2 years of home health or hospice experience (preferred).
  • Valid CPR Certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Compassion, empathy, and dedication to patient care.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position is responsible for the co-supervision of Nursing Assistant(s) and Caregivers.

Work Environment
  • May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances.
  • May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
  • Handles emergency or crisis situations.
  • Physical demands also include the ability to lift patients, assist with ambulation, walking, carrying, and pushing.
  • OSHA exposure category 1: Position includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues.
  • Required Personal Protective Equipment as conditions warrant: Gloves, gown, mask, mask with shield, goggles, shoe covers, bouffant cap.
