Job summary

Michael Foods, Inc. is seeking a production operator at our Mars Hill, Maine facility. You will relieve operators for breaks, maintain safety and sanitation, and help ensure product quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities include operating equipment, inspecting seals, inputting ingredient usage, and supporting SOP development. You will work with supervisors to meet staffing needs and train teammates while upholding GMPs and food safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate in basic English (verbal and written).
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.

Responsibilities

• Relieve operators for breaks, lunches and scheduled days off.
• Follow GMPs and maintain sanitary conditions; report safety or quality issues.
• Operate and maintain equipment and make adjustments as needed.
• Inspect bags/trays for seal integrity, weight, and proper coding.
• Document quality checks and input ingredient usage into computer systems.
• Set up and operate the metal detector, scale and related equipment.
• Communicate shift information to fellow employees and those oncoming.
• Clean equipment and maintain housekeeping per sanitation checklist.
• Assist with SOP development and rollout.
• Provide training to employees.
• Coordinate with supervisors to assess staffing needs.
• Use consoles to configure SKU settings.

• Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

In order to promote a manufacturing environment that is safe and efficient for both personnel and food, the ability to effectively communicate in basic English (both verbal and written) is required. This includes the ability to speak, read and comprehend safety instructions, rules and warnings for self and others in both normal and emergency situations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

The pay range for this position is $17.85 to $21.42 per hour.
