Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health is seeking a Relief Emergency Veterinarian for Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital in Latham, NY. This per diem role features 12-hour shifts (day, swing, overnight, weekend, holiday) and a focus on high-quality emergency and critical care.

You will be part of a collaborative team delivering comprehensive emergency services, triage, and treatment plans while communicating with pet owners in stressful situations.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent degree with eligibility for state licensure.
  • Rotating internship or equivalent emergency medicine experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage emergency cases and make rapid clinical decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality emergency and critical care to a diverse caseload of companion animals.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for urgent conditions.
  • Provide comprehensive emergency care with triage and ongoing hospitalization.
  • Perform emergency procedures and stabilize critically ill patients.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams for compassionate care.
  • Communicate clearly with pet owners during stressful situations.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture with mentorship and continuous learning.

In your day-to-day, you will:
  • Deliver high-quality emergency and critical care to a diverse caseload of companion animals.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions.
  • Provide comprehensive emergency care through a balanced mix of receiving new emergency cases, triaging incoming patients, and managing hospitalized patients throughout their course of treatment.
  • Perform emergency procedures and stabilize critically ill or injured patients using evidence-based medicine.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.
What You Bring
  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
  • Completion of a rotating internship or experience practicing emergency medicine is preferred (or equivalent clinical experience).
  • Confidence managing emergency cases and making sound clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
