Job summary

Coastal Family Health Center in Astoria, OR is seeking a Relief Expanded Function Dental Assistant to join our community health team. You will manage patient records, perform X-ray procedures, assist in orthodontics as needed, and uphold infection control standards in a busy dental clinic.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• EFDA certification within 90 days.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Surgical Technologist registration if assisting in OR.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred for differential pay.
• Basic knowledge of dental terminology and infection control.
• Ability to perform four-handed dental assisting.
• Proficient with EDR, Outlook, Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Maintain patient medical records and update history/vital signs.
• Conduct complete dental X-ray procedures and store images in EDR.
• Set up and record periodontal charting.
• Prepare instruments and equipment for exams by the provider.
• Mix materials with infection control in mind; prevent cross‑contamination.
• Provide preventive periodontal care: polishing, fluoride, sealants.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene; support school-based programs.
• Assist in infection control program and sterilization of instruments.
• Support orthodontics tasks: records, bite registrations, retainers.
• Assist in daily department workflow and staff training as needed.
• Perform other duties and align with TJC and HRSA requirements.
