Job summary

City of Yukon seeks a Relief Driver to operate sanitation trucks and related equipment for residential and commercial refuse collection, following safety procedures and work rules.

You will perform daily inspections, maintain equipment, and provide quality service to the public. A valid Oklahoma driver’s license and a Class A or B CDL are required. This is a safety-sensitive position with drug/alcohol testing requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous sanitation, heavy equipment, CDL driving, or related experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Operates sanitation trucks and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Collects residential and commercial refuse, recycling, and special pickups throughout the city.
  • Transports collected refuse to the designated transfer station or disposal site.
  • Follows all departmental safety procedures and operating guidelines.
  • Performs daily inspections and basic maintenance checks on assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains sanitation vehicles and work areas.
  • Reports vehicle issues, unsafe conditions, accidents, or service concerns to supervisors.
  • Assists with loading, unloading, and securing materials as needed.
  • Works cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Under general supervision, the Relief Driver operates sanitation vehicles and equipment to collect and transport residential and commercial refuse within the City of Yukon. This position is responsible for safely operating sanitation trucks, ensuring proper disposal procedures are followed, maintaining assigned equipment, and providing quality customer service to the public.

This is a summary of benefits for all General Employees. FOP and IAFF members do receive some of these benefits, but are governed by their individual CBA contracts and benefits.

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License required.
  • Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
  • Class A CDL preferred.

Working Conditions

  • May require early morning hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, or emergency response work.
  • Subject to occasional irregular work schedules based on operational needs. Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate vehicles, equipment, smartphones, and related tools.
  • Visual ability sufficient to safely operate equipment and read work-related materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone or radio.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments for extended periods of time.
Accidental Death/Dismemberment & Life Insurance

The City pays 100% of this benefit premium. Life insurance is your salary rounded to the next $1,000. Short-term disability is also part of this benefit.

Birthday Check

40 hours pay for the week and a day off for your birthday during the pay period.

CDL License Incentive

$ 250.00 - $ 500.00 - Paid in September of each year.

College Degree Incentive

Associates Degree - $ 800.00 Annually

Bachelors Degree - $ 1,400.00 Annually

Masters Degree - $ 2,000.00 Annually

Certification Pay* - $ 800.00 Annually

  • City Manager Approval-must require CEU's to maintain.
Health/Dental Insurance

The employer will pay 100% of full-time employees health and dental coverage. You may add dependents to your health and dental insurance at your cost. Your benefits begin the 1st of the month after hire date.

Holidays

General full-time employees receive 14 paid holidays per year. These are to be taken as directed by City of Yukon policy.

Longevity

Full-time employees - $16.00 per month after your 4th year of service,

Retirement

General employees - The City has a Defined Contribution Plan. The employee must contribute 5% per check to this plan and for 2026-2027 the City will contribute 10.00% per paycheck toward your retirement. The vesting period is 7 years. This deduction starts the 1st of the month after 90 days.

Share The Savings

If you choose not to cover you and/or your dependent(s) on the City's insurance, we will compensate you. (must have eligible dependents with proof of other coverage) General employees - $ 235.00 per quarter.

Sick Leave

General employees earn 8 hours per month.

You are not eligible to use earned leave until you have completed 6 continuous months of employment.

Vacation Leave

General employees earn 8 hours per month the first 9 years of employment.

You are not eligible to use earned leave until you have completed 6 continuous months of employment.

Water License Incentive

$ 25.00 - $ 100.00 - Paid in March of each year.
