Job summary

Hornblower Corp seeks a Chief Engineer to oversee the operation and maintenance of the engineering department aboard the Seaward Explorer and Seaward Endeavor. You will manage engine room activities, ensure safe and economical operation, and lead a team of engineers and technicians.

The role requires MMC, US passport, and USCG medical certification, with readiness to pass physical and written exams to join the crew.

Qualifications

• MMC required to work on U.S.-flag vessels.
• U.S. Passport valid for travel and work.
• USCG Medical Certificate valid for marine service.
• QMED Endorsement for senior engineering rating.
• TWIC Card required for access to secure areas.
• Ability to pass a physical examination.
• Ability to pass a written exam.

Responsibilities

• Oversee engine room operation and maintenance of all machinery.
• Lead the engineering/technical department and assign tasks.
• Maintain bunkers and engine stores and consumables.
• Manage safe loading and transfer of bunkers.
• Monitor lube oil quantities and consumptions logs.
• Stand engine room watch as required.
• Maintain condition of machinery, steering gear, and A/C systems.
• Maintain engine room procedures and maintenance schedules.
• Respond to emergencies and support the Master.

Job description

Position Summary:

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the engineering department onboard Seaward Services Multi-Purpose Vessel Seaward Explorer and Seaward Endeavor. This includes overseeing the engine room, auxiliary equipment, routine maintenance programs, and responding to emergencies. The Chief Engineer must have a strong understanding of marine engineering principles and be able to work effectively with a team of engineers and technicians.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Chief Engineer – is directly responsible to the Master for:

• Managing technical maintenance and the safe, efficient, economical operation of all her machinery
• Establishing all the engine room procedures
• Assigning the engineering/technical department jobs
• Maintaining sufficient bunkers and other essential engine-related stores and consumables
• Managing for the safe and efficient loading and transferring of bunkers
• Managing the day to day running of all plant and machinery
• Identifies and assigns necessary routine maintenance, repairs, and ship’s technical jobs
• Stands engine room watch while vessel is underway or as and when deemed necessary
• Maintaining log of the lube/oil quantities and consumptions
• Monitoring and analyzing cooling water
• Manages the general condition/maintenance of machineries, steering gear, air conditioning, etc.
• Keeping engine room watches and carrying out and administering maintenance jobs
• Other duties as assigned
