Job summary

Ash Grove Cement Company seeks a Reliability Superintendent to drive reliability, maintainability, and safety of equipment and systems across the plant. You will implement RC(M) programs, supervise RC(M) activities, and collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to optimize maintenance schedules and prevent downtime.

You will mentor staff, coordinate outages, manage CAPEX inputs, and lead reliability-focused initiatives, including lubrication, vibration, infrared, CBM, and life-cycle

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with plant reliability programs.
  • PEP certification preferred.
  • CMRP certification preferred.
  • SAP and MS Project experience preferred.
  • Vibration Analysis Certification I & II preferred.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and manage contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Advise Plant Manager on equipment reliability and function.
  • Manage Special Projects (CAPEX, Major Maintenance).
  • Develop and monitor annual shutdown plan and reliability objectives.
  • Lead RC(M) programs and reliability studies; drive CBM.
  • Mentor staff and coach for development; provide technical training.
  • Manage inventory levels and critical spare parts; coordinate outages.

Summary:

The Reliability Superintendent drives efforts to ensure the desired reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, and safety systems. This position leads efforts to improve the reliability, availability, and maintainability of equipment and systems, thereby optimizing production efficiency and minimizing downtime. The position implements and manages reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) programs, analyzes equipment failure data, develops preventive maintenance strategies, and collaborates with various departments to ensure the reliability goals are achieved. The Reliability Superintendent works closely with the Reliability Engineer to manage and drive reliability (RCM) programs at the plant level, including lubrication program, vibration program, state inspections, infrared thermography, Condition-based maintenance (CBM), life cycle assets, and risk management for critical plant equipment.

What you'll be contributing:
  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Understands and operates according to company programs, policies, and legislative requirements to meet environmental and quality standards and performance objective targets
  • Advises the Plant Manager/Maintenance Manager on all aspects of plant equipment reliability and function
  • Manages and supports Special Projects (CAPEX, Major Maintenance, etc.)
  • Provides budget input to the Maintenance Manager. Assists in developing and documenting the CAPEX plan
  • Works with the Reliability Engineer to develop and monitor the annual equipment shutdown plan, Reliability objectives, and targets. Manages and drives the CBM program.
  • Leads reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) programs to identify critical assets, failure modes, and appropriate maintenance strategies.
  • Leads the activities of the Reliability team FMEAs, Project meetings, etc
  • Reviews and provides feedback on the status of maintenance plans (daily, weekly, master).
  • Analyze equipment failure data and root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues
  • Conducts risk assessments and reliability studies to identify opportunities for improvement in asset reliability and performance.
  • Works with Electrical Planner and Maintenance Planner to manage inventory levels, critical spare list, and motor replacement schedules
  • Collaborates with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to develop and optimize preventive maintenance schedules and procedures. Mentors and coaches staff to support their personal development.
  • Provides technical training for equipment reliability, plant maintenance, and operations.
  • Manages contractors and/or crews on outage projects for 2-3 annual shutdowns within the West Region.
  • Leads the annual outage efforts via directing the outage planner on priorities, targeted timeline and budget, contractor needs, task sequencing, etc.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To succeed in this position, you will need:
  • 4 year/ Bachelors degree in Engineering is required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with plant reliability programs
  • Professional Engineering (PEP) is preferred
  • CMRP Certification is preferred
  • Prior maintenance experience is preferred
  • SAP and MS Project experience is preferred
  • Vibration Analysis Certification Level I & II is preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Proficient in effective written English, verbal communication, and listening skills
  • Ability to be focused on achieving results
  • Knowledge of industrial processes
  • High level of technical skills
  • Self-starter; strong planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate and foster a sense of urgency and a strong commitment to achieving goals
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to organize and write effective technical reports and communicate effectively
