Job summary

Sylvamo Corporation’s Ticonderoga, NY Mill is seeking an Electrical Engineer to help reduce downtime and improve efficiency in a 600+ employee manufacturing environment on the shores of Lake Champlain.

Responsibilities include engineering calculations, equipment installations, process improvements, PLC-driven troubleshooting, and data-driven decision support. Applicants should have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and permanent U.S. work authorization.

Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 0-5 years of experience; manufacturing internship/co-op a plus.
• Desire to work in a manufacturing setting.
• Preference for a manufacturing management career path.
• Highly motivated, results-driven, and able to work in a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Permanent authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Apply engineering skills to reduce downtime and operating costs; modify and install equipment.
• Perform basic engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks.
• Collaborate with senior engineers for follow-up on defined problems.
• Prepare reports, graphs, and planning layouts to communicate progress.
• Plan and execute process improvements.
• Troubleshoot process/equipment issues including power, drives, PLCs, and distributed controls.
• Use data-analysis tools to support data-driven decisions.
• Investigate and implement energy and cost-saving projects.
• Coordinate with maintenance technicians, operators, and engineers.
• Present project recommendations to mill management.
• Develop training materials for maintenance staff on new skills.
• Coordinate shutdowns of equipment and operations; learn Lean/Six Sigma tools.

Responsibilities may require engineers to:

• utilize engineering skills to solve problems and create solutions to equipment downtime and operating costs as well as engineering for equipment modifications and new equipment installations;
• perform basic engineering, calculations, investigations and tasks assigned;
• collaborate with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems;
• prepare or assist in preparing reports, graphs, planning layouts and summaries designed to communicate project progress or results
• plan and execute process improvements;
• troubleshoot process and/or equipment issues, involving equipment for power generation, electrical power distribution, equipment drives, PLCs, and distributed controls;
• use various computer systems and tools to perform data analysis to make critical data-driven decisions;
• investigate and implement energy and cost saving projects;
• work closely with maintenance technicians, operators and other engineers;
• give presentations to mill management about project recommendations;
• develop training materials and train maintenance technicians on new skills;
• coordinate shutdown of equipment and operations; and similar work;
• learn and utilize Lean/Six Sigma tools to improve process/reduce costs.
• Coordinate and oversee electrical contractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with mill standards.

Requirements

• B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Candidates should have 0-5 years of experience. Manufacturing internship and/or co-op experience a plus.
