Job description

About Artificial Lift

Halliburton’s Artificial Lift Product Service Line delivers industry-leading electric submersible pumps (ESP), gas lift systems, and production optimization technologies. Our solutions maximize reservoir recovery, extend run life, and improve production efficiency across a wide range of well conditions. From advanced motor technology to downhole monitoring systems, Artificial Lift integrates engineering, reliability, and field operations to deliver safe, consistent, and high-performance production outcomes for customers worldwide.

About the Role

Under general supervision, the Principal Reliability Engineer applies advanced reliability engineering expertise to improve the performance, run life, and service quality of Artificial Lift products and systems. This role leads design risk management activities, develops reliability models and test methodologies, and drives data-driven solutions that enhance equipment reliability across global operations.

The engineer serves as a technical mentor, provides strategic guidance to product development teams, and ensures reliability engineering principles are embedded throughout the product lifecycle—from concept and qualification to field deployment and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or support design risk management activities, including FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA, reliability assessments, and risk mitigation planning.
  • Develop reliability models, reliability specifications, and test programs for Artificial Lift systems and components.
  • Conduct statistical analysis, test result interpretation, and failure analysis to identify root causes and reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Develop methodologies for reliability analysis, data reporting plans, and reliability KPIs to monitor performance.
  • Define and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) programs and maintenance optimization strategies for Artificial Lift equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to ensure reliability requirements are integrated into designs and processes.
  • Provide technical mentorship to engineers and support personnel on reliability engineering tools, systems, and best practices.
  • Develop and deliver training courses, curricula, and technical guidance on reliability engineering topics.
  • Interface with suppliers and customers to support reliability investigations and performance reviews.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering required (Mechanical, Electrical, Petroleum, Reliability, or related discipline preferred).
  • Minimum 7 years of reliability engineering experience, ideally within ESPs, gas lift systems, rotating equipment, or downhole production technologies.
  • Experience conducting FMEA/DFMEA, reliability modeling, Weibull analysis, risk assessments, and test program development.
  • Strong proficiency with reliability software tools (e.g., Weibull++, Reliasoft, Minitab).
  • Knowledge of electronics reliability, motor systems, rotating equipment, and downhole conditions is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional efforts and drive reliability improvements across global teams.

Candidates exceeding minimum job requirements may be considered for higher-level roles based on experience, additional qualifications, and business needs. Opportunities range from Principal Reliability Engineer to Technical Advisor – Reliability Engineer for candidates with advanced expertise and leadership capability.
