Job description

Description

SAIC is seeking a Reliability Engineer to support the development, verification, and certification of critical systems enabling NASA’s Low-Earth Orbit and Lunar surface missions.

In this role, you will perform reliability engineering assessments across system lifecycles, including requirements evaluation, design maturity reviews, operational concepts, early safety and reliability products, and reliability certification of mission-support systems. This position provides support through government collaboration with commercial space companies.

Job Description:
  • Reliability Engineers are expected to become fully knowledgeable of system requirements, functional architectures, mission profiles, and operational scenarios for spaceflight systems and EVA-related hardware.
  • Core responsibilities include developing and assuring reliability and risk analyses (such as FMEAs, fault trees, and reliability models), performing hazard/risk assessments, and presenting reliability positions at program boards, technical reviews, and SMA panels.
  • This role requires frequent communication with commercial space companies, NASA stakeholders, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Reliability Engineers will function as integral members of systems engineering, safety, and mission assurance communities.
Qualifications
Required Education:
  • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience ; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
Desired Education:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace preferred), or a STEM discipline such as physics or mathematics.
Required Experience:
  • 10–15 years of relevant engineering experience. Experience creating reliability or safety artifacts such as FMEAs, hazard analyses, and fault trees. Familiarity with NASA, DoD, or related aerospace safety, reliability, and quality standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal collaboration skills.
  • Self-directed, motivated work style. Experience supporting real-time operations, ground testing, or crew/flight system training. Ability to learn SMA and engineering processes for certification of EVA or spaceflight hardware.
  • Willingness to travel domestically (less than 10%).
  • Basic knowledge and use of personal computers with typical business software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
  • Must be able to travel (minimal) and work shifts periodically.
Desired Experience:
  • Support development of FMEAs and CILs to ensure reliable, long duration system performance.
  • Analyze data, support reliability testing, and propose improvements to enhance durability and efficiency. Bring experience with EVA or EMU hardware, ISS systems, and space operations.
  • Apply knowledge of spacesuit development, critical hardware design, and operations products.
  • Perform independent technical research and support NASA human spaceflight programs.
  • Contribute expertise in hardware systems spacecraft operations.
Clearance:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
