Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a qualified Probation and Parole professional to supervise diverse offender populations and conduct investigations, using evidence-based practices to develop re-entry and supervision plans.

This on-site position requires a bachelor's degree with social/behavioral science coursework and a law enforcement background, with certification by the SC Academy. On-site work and adherence to departmental standards are required.

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses.
  • Experience in probation and parole work preferred; substitution rules allow for associates/high school with military or law enforcement experience.

  • Perform probation and parole functions including supervision of various risk offenders.
  • Conduct investigations and oversee Court/Board related functions; maintain order during emergencies.
  • Gather information on criminogenic risks and needs; develop and document re-entry and supervision plans.

Job description

Job Responsibilities

Is responsible for performing any one or a combination of professional-level probation and parole functions to include supervision of intensive, high, and administrative risk offenders, conducting investigations, oversight of Court/Board related functions and performs general law enforcement duties such as maintaining order during emergencies and participants in special operations. Is responsible for gathering information regarding the criminogenic risks and needs of incarcerated inmates and utilizing evidence-based practices to develop and document re-entry and supervision plans.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses and experience in probation and parole work. An associate's degree and two (2) years of military or law enforcement experience may substituted; or a high school diploma and four (4) years of military or law enforcement experience may be substituted.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.

Note: Must be currently Class 1 (C-1) certified law enforcement officer from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy
Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses; an associate's degree and two (2) years of military or law enforcement experience may substituted; or a high school diploma and four (4) years of military or law enforcement experience may be substituted. Experience in probation and parole work.
