Job summary

Job description

The Release Consultant will be responsible for leading Agile/Scrum processes while coordinating release activities across development, QA, and DevOps teams.

This role ensures smooth, predictable deployments by managing release schedules, mitigating risks, and maintaining cross-functional alignment.

The ideal candidate brings strong experience in Agile delivery, release management, and stakeholder communication, with the ability to drive continuous improvement across teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Ensure adherence to Agile best practices and foster continuous improvement.
  • Remove impediments and enable efficient delivery across development and QA teams.
  • Coach Product Owners on backlog refinement, prioritization, and user story clarity.
  • Track and report Agile metrics such as velocity, burndown, and team capacity.
Release Management
  • Plan, manage, and coordinate release cycles across multiple environments.
  • Maintain an integrated release calendar and ensure deployment readiness.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, QA, and engineering teams to execute smooth, predictable releases.
  • Identify and manage release risks, dependencies, and issues.
  • Oversee post-release validation, reporting, and retrospectives.
  • Communicate release timelines, milestones, status, and potential impacts to stakeholders.
Day-to-Day Duties
  • Facilitate daily standups and track team progress.
  • Monitor sprint execution and coordinate resolution of blockers.
  • Support backlog grooming and priority discussions with Product Owners.
  • Update Agile boards, dashboards, and sprint documentation.
  • Coordinate release activities with cross-functional teams.
  • Validate deployment readiness and ensure completion of release checklists.
  • Track sprint velocity, release progress, and team performance metrics.
  • Host release reviews and retrospectives to improve future cycles.
  • Maintain proactive communication with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to Agile processes, governance standards, and compliance requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master, Release Manager, or in a combined Agile delivery role.
  • Strong understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and release management practices.
  • Experience collaborating with DevOps and QA teams for coordinated deployments.
  • Proficiency with Agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Rally.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve delivery or release blockers.
  • Ability to manage multiple release cycles in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be available onsite in Salt Lake City, UT.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
  • Familiarity with ITIL or enterprise Change Management processes.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience working in scaled Agile environments (SAFe, LeSS).
  • Experience managing releases in microservices or distributed architecture environments.
Certifications (Nice to Have)
  • CSM, PSM I/II, SAFe Scrum Master, or equivalent Agile certifications.
