Sunflower Electric Power Corporation is offering a Relay Technician Internship for Summer 2027 in Garden City, KS or Great Bend, KS. This paid, full-time internship provides hands-on experience inspecting, installing, testing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing critical protection and automation equipment in an electric utility environment.

Opportunities include field and office work, with flexible start and end dates (May–August 2027).

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completed associate degree in industrial electrical, instrument and control, or electronics.
• Successful completion of the Edison Electric Institute's (EEI) Technician Occupation Selection System (TECH) Test.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair protection, relay, SCADA, PLC, communications, metering, and automation equipment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or completion of an associate degree in industrial electrical, instrument and control, or electronics field.
• Successful completion of the Edison Electric Institute's (EEI) Technician Occupation Selection System (TECH) Test

We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. We strongly encourage candidates to review all the information, including the sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual tests, available here:

EEI Practice Tests

Practice tests provide sample questions and detailed discussions of the correct answers. It's important to take the practice test as you would the actual one, with similar intensity and concentration. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.

Note: EEI does not allow access to the actual tests. Testing sessions are held at various locations.
