Job summary

Job description

  • Our client are a North American firm providing field service & engineering solutions across the power & energy space.
  • They're on the lookout for a relay tech with HV experince to join their team to work with clients across the Southeast.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Relay Installation & Commissioning: Install and commission protective relay systems and associated control systems for substations, power plants, and industrial facilities.
  • Testing & Calibration: Conduct thorough testing and calibration of protective relays to ensure proper operation and compliance with industry standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Identify and troubleshoot faults in relay systems and associated electrical equipment. Resolve issues effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance on relay systems and other protection devices to ensure peak performance and prevent system failures.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and maintenance activities. Prepare detailed reports for management and regulatory compliance.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety standards and protocols while working in high-voltage environments. Promote a safety-conscious culture.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with electrical engineers, field technicians, and other team members to resolve complex issues and ensure system reliability.
  • Upgrades & Modifications: Assist in the upgrade and modification of relay systems as needed to meet evolving technological and regulatory requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred).
  • Relevant certification or training in electrical systems, relay protection, or related areas (e.g., NETA, NICET).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with protective relays, circuit breakers, and electrical protection systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution, protection schemes, and relay operation.
  • Experience with testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, relay testers, and multimeters.
  • Familiarity with electrical standards and codes (e.g., IEEE, NEC).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and one-line diagrams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to work in various field environments and under various weather conditions.
