Job summary

Mesa Associates, Inc. is seeking a Lead Engineer to perform and oversee protective relay studies for power delivery projects in a client-facing role.

You will coordinate with clients and internal teams to develop relay schemes, perform device coordination, and model system components using PSCAD, ETAP, and related tools. The position emphasizes design leadership, adherence to scope and schedule, and mentoring junior staff while maintaining high-quality deliverables for transmission and

Qualifications

  • Lead engineer on moderately complex studies interfacing with clients and Mesa teams.
  • Conceptualize initial design approaches for major project phases.
  • Diagnose and adapt standard techniques for new settings or criteria.
  • Prepare calculations with specialized software as required.

What We’re Looking For
  • Capable of acting as Lead Engineer on moderately complex studies and settings projects which require interfacing with the client, other engineering firms, and other departments within Mesa. This includes the identification of study / settings input requirements and coordinating the collection of the input information and data.
  • Responsible for conceptualizing the initial design approach for a major phase of a large project or have overall responsibility for the engineering work on a routine project.
  • Exercises judgment in the independent evaluation selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Capable of preparing and verifying calculations using engineering formulas and skills or application specific software as required. Experience in the specific software below is preferred:
    • PSCAD
    • MathCAD
    • SKM
    • CAPE
    • ASPEN
    • acSELerator (SEL-5030)
    • ETAP
    • Siemens PSS E
  • Manages personal task assignments to ensure adherence to scope, schedule and budget.
  • Monitors project execution milestones and schedules to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
  • Performs technical and coordination checking/ review of deliverables and other project or study documents.
  • Ensures deliverables comply with Business Unit procedures and meet applicable design requirements.
  • Prepare reports documenting the process and results of the studies or settings performed
  • Adhere to client/industry standard practices and procedures.
  • Work with clients to assist them in meeting their compliance requirements
  • Mentor less experienced associates to help them develop
  • Use good verbal and written communication skills with team members and clients
  • Use good interpersonal skills to build relationships with team members and clients
  • Accept responsibility for technical adequacy of deliverables designed or checked
  • Lead studies and work under the direction of others to complete the assignment on schedule and under budget.
What You’ll Do
  • Development of relay protection schemes using microprocessor-based relays to protect transmission and distribution assets.
  • Perform protective device coordination for transmission lines, buses, transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, and reactors.
  • Develop logic settings to support desired relay schemes.
  • Perform area protective device coordination studies.
  • Develop system component modeling.

Annual Salary Range

$86,452.35 - $111,228.20

The expected compensation is a range determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, and qualifications of the candidate, internal equity, work location, and hiring department’s fiscal resources.
