Job summary

Entergy periodically fills Relay Apprentice and Relay Technician roles in the New Orleans area. The program covers testing, repairs, calibration, and installation of relays, meters, telemeters, and supervisory control equipment both in lab and in the field.

Candidates should be prepared to work under supervision on basic tasks and progress with experience. The roles involve climbing structures, driving company vehicles, and assisting in switching and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Apprentice level work with relays, meters and related equipment under supervision.
• Willingness to perform tests, repairs, adjustments and calibrations in lab and field.

Responsibilities

• Connect and read meters and instruments in field and lab.
• Take notes and prepare routine reports.
• Perform housekeeping tasks.
• Use hand tools to perform basic tasks.
• Climb ladders on poles, structures or towers safely.
• Operate Company vehicles and equipment safely.
• Assist in switching and in construction/maintenance of relaying equipment.
• Assist in storm restoration in substations and related groups.

Job description

This position can be filled as a Relay Apprentice 1st Year, 2nd Year, 3rd Year, 4th Year, or Relay Technician based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Under close supervision, following specific instructions as to methods and working details, must be willing and able to perform the less difficult tasks involved in making tests, repairs, adjustments, and calibrations on relays, meters, telemeters, supervisory control, carrier current equipment, and other similar apparatus and related equipment in laboratory and field, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned:

• Connect and read meters, instruments, etc.
• Take notes in field and laboratory and prepare routine reports.
• Perform necessary housekeeping.
• Use hand tools.
• Work off of ladders on poles, structures or towers and have ability to handle self in a safe and efficient manner.
• Operate Company's vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
• Assist in switching.
• Assist in constructing, installing, and maintaining all relaying and associated equipment.
• Assist in storm restoration in substations and other groups.
