Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred, or equivalent banking experience.
  • Minimum of two years of lending, business development, relationship management, or comparable banking experience; commercial lending experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of lending principles, credit analysis, loan documentation, banking products, and applicable federal and state banking regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business, build lasting customer relationships, and communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and community partners.

Responsibilities

  • Deepen existing relationships by understanding each customer’s business, financial goals, and banking needs; connect customers with appropriate products and services.

  • Interview borrowers; collect and analyze financial information; assess creditworthiness and risk.
  • Structure and recommend credit solutions aligned with customer needs and regulations.
  • Approve loans within authority and prepare loan presentations for approvals.
  • Partner with credit, operations, treasury, retail, mortgage, wealth, and other teams to ensure a seamless experience.
  • Maintain complete, accurate credit files and documentation.

Position Summary:

The Relationship Manager is a relationship-driven banker responsible for developing, growing, and managing a profitable portfolio of commercial and consumer loan and deposit relationships. This role serves as a trusted financial partner to customers, actively develops new business, delivers responsive and knowledgeable service, and represents River Bank & Trust as a visible leader in the community. The Relationship Manager balances growth with sound credit judgment, portfolio quality, regulatory compliance, and the Bank’s commitment to hospitality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop new loan and deposit relationships through proactive calling, networking, referrals, centers of influence, and meaningful community involvement.
  • Deepen existing relationships by understanding each customer’s business, financial goals, and banking needs and by connecting customers with appropriate Bank products, services, and other lines of business.
  • Maintain and actively manage a loan and deposit pipeline; track business development, opportunities, expected closings, and relationship growth.
  • Interview prospective and existing borrowers; collect and analyze financial information; assess creditworthiness, repayment capacity, collateral, and overall relationship risk.
  • Structure and recommend credit solutions consistent with customer needs, sound banking practices, Bank policy, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Approve loans within assigned lending authority and prepare clear, complete loan presentations for the appropriate approval authority when requests exceed individual authority.
  • Partner effectively with credit, loan operations, treasury management, retail, mortgage, wealth/investment, and other internal teams to provide a seamless customer experience.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely credit files, loan documentation, financial information, and other required records.
  • Monitor assigned portfolio for credit quality, past dues, exceptions, maturities, and emerging risks; take timely action when concerns arise.
  • Work proactively with delinquent or stressed borrowers, in partnership with management and credit personnel, to develop appropriate collection or resolution strategies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Bank products, credit policy, pricing, regulatory requirements, market conditions, and competitive trends.
  • Protect customer information and maintain confidentiality in accordance with privacy requirements, Bank policy, and professional standards.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions or concerns and take ownership of appropriate resolution.
  • Represent River Bank & Trust professionally in civic, charitable, business, and community activities that strengthen the Bank’s relationships and market presence.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and support the Bank’s strategic goals, culture, and service standards.
  • Demonstrate ownership of portfolio growth, profitability, credit quality, customer retention, and overall relationship value.
  • Consistently identify opportunities to expand deposits, treasury management services, and other fee-generating or relationship-enhancing services.
  • Build strong internal partnerships and actively participate in the Bank’s referral culture.
  • Maintain disciplined follow-up with prospects and customers and keep pipeline and relationship-management information current.
  • Exercise sound judgment and escalates credit, compliance, operational, or customer concerns promptly when appropriate.
  • Deliver a high level of hospitality and responsiveness while maintaining appropriate risk and control standards.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant banking experience.
  • Minimum of two years of lending, business development, relationship management, or comparable banking experience; commercial lending experience preferred for roles managing a significant commercial portfolio.
  • Working knowledge of lending principles, credit analysis, loan documentation, banking products, and applicable federal and state banking regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business, build lasting customer relationships, and communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and community partners.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and other borrower information.
  • Business development and consultative sales skills, including prospecting, networking, needs discovery, and relationship expansion.
  • Sound credit judgment, analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present credit requests clearly and professionally.

  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new products, systems, regulations, and processes.

Performance Targets:
  • Loan Growth Target – Achieve annual loan production and net portfolio growth targets while maintaining appropriate pricing, structure, underwriting standards, and credit quality.
  • Deposit Growth Target - Generate and retain core low cost deposits, with emphasis on full relationship banking.
  • Portfolio Quality Target - Maintain acceptable levels of past dues, classified or criticized assets, policy exceptions, and documentation quality within the assigned portfolio.
  • Business Development Target - Maintain consistent calling, prospecting, networking, and center-of-influence activity sufficient to support established production goals and a healthy pipeline.
  • Referrals Target - Identify customer needs and generate qualified referrals to other lines of business to include but not limited to: Treasury Management, Mortgage, Investments, SBA, and other Bank lines of business, as applicable.
  • Community Involvement Target - Maintain meaningful involvement in civic, charitable, business, or professional organizations that support the Bank’s visibility and relationship-development efforts in the market and specifically CRA opportunities.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands and work environment are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position. The employee regularly sits, communicates, and uses hands for computer and office work and may occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, or lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The role may require travel within the Bank’s market for customer meetings, business development, and community activities. The work environment is generally consistent with a professional banking or office setting.
