Job description

The Relationship Banker supports a traditional branch environment, with approximately 75% of the role focused on processing teller transactions, handling cash, and supporting daily branch operations. The remaining 25% is focused on building client relationships (also referenced as bank customer), identifying financial needs, recommending appropriate banking solutions, and contributing to individual and branch sales goals.

The Relationship Banker serves clients at the teller line by accurately processing deposits, withdrawals, payments, check cashing, transfers, and other routine banking transactions. During these interactions, the banker recognizes opportunities to deepen relationships, educates clients about products and digital tools, and makes appropriate referrals to branch teammates and internal business partners.

This role is ideal for candidates with experience as a Bank Teller, Universal Banker, Relationship Banker, Personal Banker, Member Service Representative, Customer Service Representative, or in a similar retail banking, credit union, cash-handling, or customer-facing role.

Successful candidates will have experience providing accurate, efficient service in a fast-paced environment, handling cash responsibly, balancing transactions, following operational controls, and identifying opportunities to cross-sell products or refer clients for additional financial solutions. This position has defined individual sales goals and contributes to branch sales and service results.

In This Role You Will

Teller Transactions and Client Service (Approximately 75%)

  • Process deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, check cashing, transfers, cashier’s checks, money orders, and other routine teller transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Receive, count, verify, and safeguard cash and negotiable instruments in accordance with established procedures and assigned limits.
  • Balance the teller drawer daily, research and resolve discrepancies, and maintain accurate transaction records.
  • Provide prompt, professional service while verifying client identity, account ownership, endorsements, funds availability, and transaction authorization.
  • Assist clients with account questions, routine service requests, debit card needs, online and mobile banking, and other branch services.
  • Follow all cash-control, dual-control, security, fraud-prevention, privacy, and loss-prevention procedures.
  • Maintain an organized teller station and support opening, closing, vault, night-drop, and other daily branch procedures as assigned.
  • Recognize unusual or potentially fraudulent activity and promptly elevate concerns in accordance with bank procedures.

Client Relationships, Cross-Selling and Sales Goals (Approximately 25%)

  • Build client relationships through attentive service, needs-based conversations, and consistent follow-up.
  • Identify opportunities during teller and service interactions to cross-sell appropriate consumer banking products and services.
  • Recommend deposit accounts, debit and credit cards, digital banking services, certificates of deposit, consumer loans, home equity products, and other solutions based on client needs.
  • Open and maintain consumer deposit accounts in accordance with bank procedures and applicable requirements.
  • Generate qualified referrals to mortgage, consumer lending, business banking, investments, insurance, and other internal partners.
  • Meet established individual sales goals and contribute to branch sales, referral, service, and client-retention goals.
  • Participate in branch sales campaigns, outbound calling, lead follow-up, and other client outreach activities as assigned.
  • Maintain current knowledge of retail banking products, services, promotions, and digital tools.

Additional Branch Responsibilities

  • Resolve routine client concerns and elevate complex matters appropriately.
  • Support lobby management, client traffic flow, and branch coverage as business needs require.
  • Work collaboratively with branch teammates to meet client needs and achieve branch objectives.
  • Complete required training and remain current on products, systems, procedures, and regulatory expectations.

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Follow all bank policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and risk-management expectations.
  • Complete account openings, transaction documentation, referrals, and service records accurately and in accordance with bank standards.
  • Protect client information and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Apply required procedures related to client identification, fraud prevention, suspicious activity, funds availability, and transaction monitoring.
  • Promptly report operational, security, compliance, or client concerns through appropriate channels.

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

As part of the employment process for this position, you will be required to meet the requirements of a background and credit check.

This position requires compliance with the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 and all related regulations. Ongoing employment is contingent upon meeting all such requirements, including registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry, NMLS, after hire.
