Job Description

Relational Database Automation Architect

About the Role

We are seeking a senior Relational Database Automation Architect to design and build the next-generation platform responsible for managing one of the world's largest fleets of Oracle databases.

This role focuses on safely automating the full lifecycle of mission-critical database environments, including provisioning, cluster creation, replication, monitoring, diagnostics, configuration management, performance tuning, patching, upgrades, backup and recovery, and operational remediation.

The successful candidate will help modernize and evolve an existing platform while designing a new automation architecture that can scale database operations across more than 100 OCI regions with minimal human intervention.

This is not an application development role. Success is measured by operational scalability, automation, reliability, and the ability to safely manage mission-critical Oracle database fleets at global scale.

What You'll Do

  • Design and architect large-scale database fleet management and automation platforms.
  • Build systems that automate database provisioning, upgrades, patching, replication, monitoring, diagnostics, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop automation frameworks that reduce operational dependence on manual DBA processes.
  • Define operational standards for reliability, observability, governance, and database lifecycle management.
  • Lead modernization efforts that transition existing operational systems to highly automated platforms.
  • Design safe migration strategies for mission-critical production environments.
  • Improve scalability and operational efficiency across a rapidly growing global database footprint.
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to ensure safe deployment and operation of database infrastructure.
  • Drive technical direction for database automation, fleet management, and operational excellence initiatives.

What You'll Bring

  • 15+ years of database engineering, architecture, or platform experience.
  • Deep expertise in Oracle Database administration, operations, and automation.
  • Experience operating and managing large fleets of Oracle databases at enterprise scale.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle RAC, Data Guard, Exadata, Enterprise Manager, backup/recovery, upgrades, and performance tuning.
  • Proven success building database automation platforms and operational tooling.
  • Experience automating large-scale database lifecycle management processes.
  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code, Ansible, Kubernetes, observability platforms, and automation technologies.
  • Experience leading platform modernization and operational transformation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk management and change control in mission-critical environments.
  • Experience safely migrating complex systems from manual operational models to highly automated platforms.

Success Profile

The ideal candidate has built large-scale automation platforms that manage thousands of relational databases, significantly reduced operational dependence on DBAs, and successfully transformed manual operational processes into highly automated systems while maintaining reliability, scalability, and operational safety. Experience managing large Oracle estates within financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, or other highly regulated industries is particularly valuable.

Responsibilities
  • Design and architect large-scale database fleet management and automation platforms.
  • Build systems that automate database provisioning, upgrades, patching, replication, monitoring, diagnostics, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop automation frameworks that reduce operational dependence on manual DBA processes.
  • Define operational standards for reliability, observability, governance, and database lifecycle management.
  • Lead modernization efforts that transition existing operational systems to highly automated platforms.
  • Design safe migration strategies for mission-critical production environments.
  • Improve scalability and operational efficiency across a rapidly growing global database footprint.
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to ensure safe deployment and operation of database infrastructure.
  • Drive technical direction for database automation, fleet management, and operational excellence initiatives.
