Job summary

The City of Houston invites applications for the Houston Fire Department Certified Fire Fighter / Emergency Medical Technician rehire program. This opportunity targets former HFD Classified members seeking to rejoin the team as Fire Fighter.

After completing eligibility and minimum certification requirements, recruits will participate in the reacclimation and training, engage in drills, and join a team delivering fire suppression and emergency medical services.

Qualifications

• Must have obtained the rank of Firefighter as a HFD Classified member.
• Active/Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Certification.
• Active/Current Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Certification (minimum EMT Basic).

Responsibilities

• Re-acclimation training (5 Weeks) - lectures, seminars, and practical sessions.
• Receives and participates in various training in fire suppression and EMS.
• Participates in drills, demonstrations and instruction in hydraulics, pump operation, maintenance, fire suppression, rescue, and EMS.

Minimum Requirements

GENERAL INFORMATION

• Immunizations/shot records will be required prior to job offer.
• Texas Commission of Fire Protection State Fire Fighters Certification and Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Emergency Medical Technician Certification(s), minimum EMT Basic, will be subject to verification by the Human Resources Department.
• Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Technicians Certification as a Paramedic will be subject to verification by the Human Resources Department.
• Applicants must successfully complete all phases of the hiring process (fingerprints, motor vehicle report, physical ability test, interview, background, immunizations, drug screen, medical examination).
• HFD reserves the right to discontinue consideration in the hiring process based on an applicant’s conduct or verification of certain disqualifying factors.
• Must not have ever been convicted of or received community supervision for a Felony or a Class A Misdemeanor.
