Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA seeks a patient care assistant to support Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants in a fast-paced rehabilitation department. This full-time, first-shift role provides outpatient and inpatient support, under supervision, with schedules in EPIC and direct patient interaction.

Candidates must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Physical Therapist/Physical Therapist Assistant with patient care.
• Schedules patients in EPIC and assists with active management of outpatient/inpatient schedules.
• Greet and direct patients, physicians, and visitors with professional courtesy.
• Maintains department supplies, equipment, and workspace; handles recycling and documentation tasks.
• Follows Mercy safety guidelines and reports unsafe conditions or incidents promptly.

This position includes a wide range of duties for the Rehabilitation Department to support and assist with patient care. This position may also be used for Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy students who will obtain the necessary licensure within 60 days to become a licensed OT or PT.Job DescriptionJob DutiesAssists the Physical Therapist/Physical Therapist Assistant as needed with patient careSchedules patients in EPIC and assisting with active management of patient schedulesChecks patients into therapy to include proper paperwork for initial sessions and repeat sessions - outpatient onlyCommunicates with physicians, includes mailing and receiving notes, faxesChecking and placement of the confidential recycling boxesMakes copies as requested by staff, as needed for documentation, patient education and home exercise programDistributes department mail each dayOrders and tracks supplies, stocks items, inventoryInventories durable medical equipment and supplies, and communicates with vendorsPlaza - UVB/PUVA cleans and calibrates – outpatient onlyCleans and organizes department gyms to include linens and equipmentSends notes requiring physician certificationProvides restorative care as planned by the PT/PTA - inpatient onlyCalls facilities for current patient informationGreets and directs customers, patients, physicians, community leaders, general public, staff and visitors.
