Job summary

Sheppard Pratt in Maryland is seeking a dedicated Residential Counselor to support clients in day programs and supportive living services. You will help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and assist with daily activities that promote independence and wellbeing.

Under supervision, you will work one-on-one with clients, support medication safety, coordinate transportation to medical appointments, and participate in developing and implementing individual service plans with a collaborative

Qualifications

  • Requires SERVSAFE certification upon hire or within 60 days
  • CPR/First Aid, Infection Control, Food Safety and Handling, and Crisis Intervention/Suicidal Protocol certifications may be required
  • Must possess direct knowledge of or be willing to learn CACFP program
  • High school diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Driver's license with 3 points or less and access to a vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Act as a residential counselor, working one-on-one with clients to learn or regain skills for community and independent living
  • Ensure medication safety, dosage accuracy, and cleanliness
  • Collaborate with service team to develop and implement individual service plans
  • Provide transportation to medical appointments and document follow-up instructions
  • Maintain sanitation and meet regulatory CACFP documentation and licensing requirements
  • Assist in food operations and catering; coordinate off-site meal delivery
  • Monitor portion control and inventory; negotiate food purchases
  • Maintain compliance with Department of Health regulations and related directives
  • Build rapport with clients and support their progress through the program
  • All direct care staff receive mentorship from senior staff

Job description

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am to 4pm | Job Location Type: In Person

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) services consist of day programs and supportive living programs.

Clients in our day programs have access to group activities, individual support, and mental health services.

Clients in the supportive living program receive support in maintaining independent living and have access to the day program.

What to expect.

This is a direct care opportunity to provide support for mental health treatment. You will provide a safe and therapeutic environment that encourages the overall independence and wellbeing of your clients.

Under general supervision, your responsibilities will include:
  • Acting as a residential counselor as you work one-on-one with clients to learn or regain skills for successful community and independent living and socialization.
  • Ensuring medication compliance which involves responsibility for safety, dosage, and cleanliness.
  • Working as a part of a collaborative service team to develop and implement individual service plans.
  • Providing transportation and attending clients' medical appointments. You will provide advocacy services throughout the appointment and ensure that all follow-up instruction is documented and/or followed through on.
  • Ensure overall sanitation and Department of health regulations are met and exceeded. Ensures all CACFP documentation is completed accurately and timely.
  • Assist in the daily food operations and as-needed catering operations. Will help ensure that meals are attractive, nutritionally complete, appealing and delivered fresh and hot. Will coordinate the preparation and delivery of off-site meals.
  • Helps ensure that food service documentation and licensing is accurate, complete and current. Will also ensure compliance with all Department of Labor and State Laws, regulations, guidelines, and directives. Will participate in all required food service trainings.
  • Monitor accurate portion control and inventory control. Will negotiate food purchases and delivery, and assist in general inventory control for food services.
  • Ensure overall sanitation and Department of health regulations are met and exceeded. Ensures all CACFP documentation is completed accurately and timely.

As you spend time with your clients, you will find yourself developing a rapport with your clients where you become part of their trusted support system. You will see their wins as your wins as they work their way through the program and cheer them on as they progress in their recovery.

  • All direct care staff will be thoroughly trained to provide all services and should expect supportive and ever-present mentorship from senior staff members as they perform the requested duties.

What we need from you.
  • Work requires current, valid SERVSAFE certification upon hire or within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain additional certifications/trainings as may be required by certain programs (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Infection Control, Food Safety and Handling, and Crisis Intervention/Suicidal Protocol).
  • Must possess direct knowledge of or be willing to learn and implement the CACFP program.
  • Your high school diploma or a GED. Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • The willingness to obtain additional certifications and trainings as required.
  • A driver's license with 3-points or less and access to an insured vehicle.
  • Must have availability to work, days, nights, weekends, and holidays depending upon need of the program.

Pay rate for this position is $19.31 hourly.
