Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Rehabilitation Aide to support the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The role involves preparing therapy spaces, assisting patients with gear and dressing, and aiding therapists with gait training and equipment setup.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, strong communication abilities, and basic computer skills. BLS certification is required; prior patient care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and cleans whirlpools and attends to patients during whirlpool sessions.
  • Assists patients with prosthetic/orthotic devices and dressing.
  • Sets up patients on therapy equipment and assists therapists with gait training.
  • Maintains linen and supplies for the professional staff.
  • Lifts at least 50 lbs., pushes/pulls 100 lbs, stands 6 hours daily.
  • Performs daily whirlpool scheduling and completes assignment sheets.
  • Adheres to organizational competencies and standards.

The Rehabilitation Aide provides supportive and ancillary services to the professional staff of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

A day in the life of a Rehabilitation Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health includes

  • Prepares and cleans whirlpools and attends to patients while in the whirlpool.
  • Assists patients in donning and doffing prosthetic or orthotic devices.
  • Assists patients in dressing and undressing in preparation for treatment.
  • Assists the therapist in setting up patients on all therapeutic equipment.
  • Maintains linen and other supplies at all times at the disposal of the professional staff.
  • Prepares hot and cold packs for use by the therapists.
  • Adjusts non-modality equipment for patient use.
  • Assists therapists in gait training of patients and is able to provide support to patients while ambulating, safely lower patients to the floor in case of a total loss of balance.
  • Performs daily whirlpool scheduling and completes the daily assignment sheet.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing, and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Lifts a minimum of 50lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 100 lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse patient population. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year patient care experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required
  • BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Minimum rate of $18.57 Hourly
