Job summary

Georgetown University Hospital is seeking a Rehabilitation Technician II who assists OTs, PTs, and SLPs under direct supervision with patient treatments, vital signs, and related administrative duties in the PM&R department.

Responsibilities include wound care assistance, proper fitting of crutches and ambulatory devices, ADL support, equipment transport, treatment area maintenance, inventory, and coordinating schedules.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor's degree in medical/exercise science preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of clinical practice with 20+ CEU hours and 4+ special projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist OT/PT/SLP with patients, under direct supervision.
• Aide in wound care therapy preparation and clean-up.
• Assist with ambulatory devices fitting and instruction (crutches, walkers, slings, etc.).
• Support Activities of Daily Living and adaptive equipment use.
• Transport equipment and patients as needed; prepare for transport.
• Organize and maintain treatment areas and equipment; logs.
• Maintain inventory and par levels; order equipment as needed.
• Administrative duties: scheduling, faxing, scanning, calling patients.

About the Job

General Summary of Position

The incumbent in this position is a skilled rehabilitation technician who under direct supervision aides and assists Occupational Therapists (OT) Physical Therapists (PT) and Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) with the treatment of their patients. They may also be required to perform non-patient care related duties such as inventory supply ordering transportation of patients and administrative duties as assigned. The Rehabilitation Technician II will be proficient in at least two areas throughout the department assist with staff mentoring and orientation. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision aids patients in practicing exercises functional activities and checking vital signs as directed by Occupational Therapists (OT's) Physical Therapists (PT's) and Speech Pathologists (SLP's).
• Under direct supervision assists PT/OT with patients receiving wound care therapy. This includes preparation and clean-up applying dressings and patient transfers in and out of wound care area.
• Under direct supervision properly fits and directs patients in the care and use of crutches walkers and other ambulatory devices such as slings braces orthotics etc.
• Assists OT with Activities of Daily Living treatment utilizing appropriate adaptive equipment as directed.
• Assist in the provision of treatments; assists OT/PT/SLP in positioning handling and stabilizing patients; transports equipment needed as requested by OT/PT/SLP.
• Organizes maintains and cleans treatment areas and equipment.
• Transports patients to and from the department of PM&R assists in the preparation of patients for transport and patient transfers.
• Participates in at least 5 contact hours of continuing education programs or other opportunities for learning for continued professional competency per year.
• Demonstrates participation in at least 2 special projects and/or program development per year.
• Maintains an inventory of supplies and orders equipment according to par levels. Maintains all equipment and/or applicable logs.
• Performs administrative duties as necessary to include but not limited to: faxing scanning/indexing calling patients scheduling patients and form development/enhancement.
• Coordinates and prioritizes own schedule in relation to demands of patient treatment and other department responsibilities.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Bachelor's degree in a medical science or exercise science preferred

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of current clinical practice 20 or more contact hours of ceus involvement with at least 4 special projects/program development and proficient in at least 2 rehabilitation areas. required

Licenses and Certifications

• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

• Ability to read understand and respond to detailed oral and written English language instructions.
• Ability to communicate clearly.
• Demonstrates knowledge of relevant therapy practices.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $18.70 - USD $32.72 /Hr.
