The Maine Bureau of Financial Institutions is seeking an Attorney to join the Research, Legal and Administrative Division. This role provides legal counsel on banking and finance, consumer protection, legislation, rulemaking, and administrative law.

Responsibilities include drafting legislation, interpreting complex agreements, and advising on regulatory matters with opportunities for continued education and conferences. Hybrid work schedule available.

Formación

• Law degree from an accredited law school.
• Admitted to practice law in Maine and currently registered with the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar.

Responsabilidades

• Counsels and advises the Banking Superintendent and staff on legal matters pertaining to the Bureau's responsibilities.
• Drafts legislation, rules, and interpretive Bulletins.
• Assists in monitoring legislation and preparing legislative testimony.
• Reviews and interprets agreements and other legal documents used by the Bureau of Financial Institutions.
• Supports Consumer Outreach staff with legal interpretations and review of consumer complaints.
• Mediates complex complaints or refers to the Office of the Attorney General for legal action.
• Supports the Applications staff with legal review of bank mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate activity prior to Bureau approval.
• Responds to industry inquiries regarding relevant banking laws and works with an Assistant Attorney General on interpretive matters.
• Monitors federal banking and credit union law developments and advises senior staff on impact.
