Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago, IL is seeking a Vascular Technician to perform venous, carotid, aortic and arterial duplex exams, in alignment with approved protocols.

You will assess exam appropriateness using ICD-9 codes, consult physicians as needed, document results, operate and maintain equipment, and support clerical tasks to keep patient flow smooth.

ARDMS RVT certification or RVT eligibility is required; strong interpersonal skills and ability to position patients are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venous, carotid, aortic, and arterial duplex examinations according to approved protocols.
  • Assess the appropriateness of exams using ICD 9 codes and symptoms, consult the physician of possible discrepancies, and modify the exam with referring physician approval.
  • Review, evaluate and quantify exam findings based on normal and abnormal values for vascular morphology and physiology with consideration of technical and exam limitations for the purpose of physician interpretation.
  • Document and prepare patient records for review and interpretation by physician, including the selection, recording, and cross-referencing of significant or representative studies.
  • Selects and operates equipment as required.
  • Maintains accurate patient records with regard to evaluation results.
  • Maintains equipment to assure conformance with operational standards.
  • Performs clerical support when needed including reception duties, patient scheduling, inventory of department supplies and file maintenance.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

RVT exam must be successfully completed within 1 year of hire.Interpersonal skills necessary to deal with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress in order to promote good customer relations.Interpersonal skills for working with all levels of health care workers.Ability to analyze situations, identify problems and plan courses of action in concert with the philosophy and objectives of the department.Ability to transfer and position patients, consistent with lifting up to 35 lbs.Working ConditionsNormal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.Occasional exposure to infectious disease when working with patients.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
