RWJBarnabas Health's Melchiorre Cancer Center is seeking a Registrar Tumor to abstract malignancies, code data, and report to the NJ Cancer Registry. The position requires an Associate degree and Oncology Date Specialist Certification, with hybrid/onsite scheduling Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.

You will use EPIC and cancer registry software, collaborate with the oncology team, and ensure timely data submissions to state and national databases, while handling confidential information with care.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Abstract and code cancer data into the Oncology Data Center database.
• Generate monthly follow-up letters to physicians and patients.
• Monitor case-finding procedures per procedure manual.
• Participate in Cancer Committee and tumor conferences.
• Prepare and submit data to National Cancer Database and ACOS.
• Provide requested data to medical staff.
• Report new NJ State Cancer Registry accession; respond to requests.
• Identify reportable neoplasms and related cases.
• Review medical records and abstract into hospital registry timely.
• Maintain cancer registry software proficiency and security.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Registrar Tumor abstract all cases of malignancy diagnosed and/or treated. Abstract all cancer cases directly onto computer and report all cases to the State Cancer Registry. Assume responsibilities for Tumor Conference under the direction of the Director. Provide follow-up to cases via mail and telephone contact as mandated through abstracting.

As Registrar Tumor, a typical day might include the following:

• Abstracting and coding data on Radiation Therapy patients into the Oncology Data computer database
• Generating monthly follow up letters to physicians and patients and process returns,
• Monitoring case finding procedures as outlines in procedure manual
• Participating in the activities of the Cancer Committee and clinical tumor conferences
• Preparing and submitting data to National Cancer Database and ACOS patient care evaluations
• Providing data as requested by the medical staff
• Reporting new accession to NJ State Cancer Registry and responds to requests from NJSCR
• Identifying reportable neoplasm and related cases
• Reviewing and abstracting information from patient medical records and electronic sources into hospital cancer registry database in a timely manner
• Maintaining knowledge of operation and maintenance of cancer registry software, including follow up, statistical analysis, abstracting and security measures,
• Maintaining knowledge of in-house hospital database software
• Using appropriate records in appropriate and confidential manner

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have an Associate Degree. Must have the Oncology Date Specialist Certification. Preferably with clerical experience in health care and medical terminology. Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office and proficient computer skills. Familiarity with office equipment such as copiers and fax machines. Must demonstrate willingness to learn. Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:00pm. Hybrid/Onsite position with remote capability.
