Job summary

BJC HealthCare – Alton Memorial Hospital is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with 5 years of experience to join the Respiratory team. You will provide comprehensive respiratory care across adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients in a PRN role with day or night shifts.

The department offers a collaborative environment where your clinical expertise and teaching skills support patient care and staff education.

Qualifications

• Assoc or CoARC Accredited Program in Respiratory Therapy is required.
• 5 years of experience in respiratory care preferred.
• Licensing/certifications required as listed: RRT/CRT, BCLS, RPX (as applicable).

Responsibilities

• Provides comprehensive respiratory care across adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
• Communicates effectively with the healthcare team and documents care.
• Performs diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures per standards and policies.
• Demonstrates advanced clinical skills and supports ECMO, ventilator, bronchoscopy, sleep lab, and rehab needs as needed.

In this role you will Provide comprehensive respiratory care across patient populations, including adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.

Overview

Since 1937, Alton Memorial Hospital has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area. Starting as a land gift to the community from the Smith family, Alton Memorial today is a full-service acute care hospital. Alton Memorial offers patients a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including surgery services, medical imaging, interventional and diagnostic heart services, cancer care, rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency care, ambulance services and more.

The Respiratory Therapy department consists of certified and registered therapist that treat disease of the pulmonary system of the human body.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities related to respiratory care including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation within the guidelines of the hospital and department. Can independently apply advanced clinical respiratory expertise and scientific knowledge including best practices serving as a resource to others as part of the patient care team. Ensures patient safety by providing care in an effective, developmentally and age appropriate manner while complying with all quality and regulatory requirements as well as quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Effectively communicates by participating in the exchange of information including documentation, handoff and works collaboratively with the healthcare team.

• Provides education and training about respiratory therapy treatments and procedures to others including patients, families, students, new employees and members of the healthcare team utilizing diversity and learning styles.

• Holds self-accountable and seeks out opportunities for continuous learning and feedback and is able to perform multiple related duties, prioritizing and applying effective time management.

• Performs various diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory procedures according to established standards, procedures, guidelines and policies. Applies respiratory knowledge and clinical expertise, including the ability to assess, analyze and troubleshoot as needed.

• Demonstrates advanced clinical and critical care skills to support additional job responsibilities such as ECMO support, mechanical ventilator support, bronchoscopies, sleep lab, labor and delivery, cardiopulmonary and circulatory rehabilitation, Basic Life Support (BLS), etc. as needed.
