Summary

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) assumes clinical responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, performing diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures to assess patient response and modify care plans independently.

Responsibilities

• Assess and provide recommendations in the development of a care plan for patients in respiratory care.
• Implement care plans based on physician orders or defined protocols, modify plans based on patient condition and response.
• Initiate and monitor respiratory medication administration, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures per standards.
• Document all required information accurately in the patient’s medical record and enter data for billing and productivity.
• Perform arterial and capillary blood gases per standards, ensuring documentation and compliance with CAP/CLIA regulations.
• Maintain basic maintenance and troubleshooting of blood gas machines.
• Promote continuous improvement of workplace practices.
