Job summary

Methodist Health System in Plano, TX, is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to support patient care during the 7pm–7am shift. You will perform a range of therapies and diagnostic procedures for adults and neonates under indirect supervision.

The role requires graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care Program, BLS and ACLS, and NBRC registration, with Texas licensure in good standing and NRP/PALS within a year.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Current Advanced Cardio Life Support certification required.
  • NRP, Pediatric Advanced Life Support – must obtain within 1 year of hire.
  • Currently licensed in good standing as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by Texas Medical Board
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • At least 6 months respiratory care experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory therapy including oxygen administration, humidification, bronchial hygiene, chest physiotherapy, CPR, and ventilator support.
  • Perform and report prescribed cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas analysis, pulse oximetry, pulmonary function studies, and electrocardiograms.
  • Prepare a treatment evaluation including bedside assessment, patient interview, and chart review.
  • Interpret data from CXR, ABG, and PFTs when reviewing patient data.
  • Operate and troubleshoot cardiopulmonary equipment (ventilators, monitors, airway devices).
  • Participate in infection control, safety, and quality assurance.
  • Perform cleaning and maintenance of equipment and work areas.
  • Utilize customer scripting to improve patient satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Overview

Hours of Work: 7pm-7am. Days of Week: Work Shift. The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures including ABG, PFTs, ventilator support, oxygen and aerosol therapy, bronchial hygiene therapy, and airway maintenance. The RRT must demonstrate proficiency with the respiratory assessment and treatment of both adults and neonates, perform procedures under indirect supervision of the department’s medical director, and follow departmental policies and procedures. The RRT must also be sensitive to the diverse and unique needs of patients based on age, sex, race, and culture.

  • Perform and report prescribed cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas analysis, pulse oximetry, pulmonary function studies, and electrocardiograms
  • Prepare a treatment evaluation that includes a bedside respiratory physical assessment, patient interview, and review of the patient’s medical record
  • Perform appropriate actions using critical thinking skills
  • Interpret CXR, ABG, and PFTs when reviewing patient data
  • Assemble, check, operate, and troubleshoot all cardiopulmonary equipment such as artificial airways, ventilators, oxygen analyzers, oxygen delivery devices, and blood gas analyzers
  • Participate in tasks related to infection control, safety, and quality assurance
  • Perform required cleaning and maintenance of all cardiopulmonary equipment and work areas
  • Utilize appropriate customer scripting as evidenced by observation and improved patient satisfaction
  • Perform other job duties as required
