Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for midnight shifts (7pm–7:30am) in Detroit, MI. You will deliver life-support and gas therapies to ICU patients, perform diagnostic procedures, and ensure accurate documentation of patient care.

The role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, supervision of students, and maintaining up-to-date clinical competencies in a high-volume hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapist program.
• Associate degree or higher required.
• Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in Michigan.

Responsibilities

• Deliver life-support, resuscitation, and medical gases therapy to ICU patients.
• Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic procedures in ICUs and general units.
• Maintain clinical expertise and support across hospital units.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
• Document all aspects of patient care accurately.
• Supervise and delegate tasks to students and externs when required.

Role Overview

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will deliver life-support, resuscitation, and medical gases therapy primarily to critical care patients in the Intensive Care Units. You’ll perform diagnostic procedures, maintain clinical expertise across various business units, and ensure effective communication and documentation of patient care. This role is essential in supporting patient recovery and improving health outcomes.

What You Will Do

• Deliver life-support, resuscitation, and medical gases therapy to critical care patients.
• Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic procedures for Intensive Care and General Practice Units.
• Maintain clinical expertise and provide support across various business units.
• Communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians, and other system employees.
• Document all aspects of patient care accurately.
• Supervise, direct, and delegate tasks to respiratory orienteers, externs, and students.

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapist program.
• Associate of Science Degree, minimum.
• Registration with the National Board of Respiratory Care.
• Current License as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan (new graduates have 90 days to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelors in Respiratory Therapy.
• Two years of recent Respiratory Therapist experience in a Tertiary Hospital.
