Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join an innovative team delivering advanced cardiopulmonary care. You will assess and treat patients, manage vents, and participate in care coordination with nurses and physicians.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program and registered RRT.
  • Current Ohio RCP license with BLS/ACLS/PALS CPR certifications.
  • NRP or NPS certification as applicable for site.
  • Ability to work in a high‑acuity clinical environment with autonomy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
  • Direct respiratory caregivers for delivery of care.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Assess patients for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Perform advanced respiratory care modalities and blood gas analysis; administer meds and treatments.
  • Educate patients and families about illness and community resources.

Respiratory therapists partner closely with nurses, physicians, and specialists to make a real impact every day while practicing at the top of your license. In this role, you will assess and treat patients with respiratory conditions, perform advanced cardiopulmonary evaluations, deliver lifesaving therapies, manage ventilators and airways, and respond to critical situations. This position provides the opportunity to learn from world‑renowned leading experts in respiratory care and offers a high level of autonomy in patient care and clinical decision making. You will be part of an innovative team that is shaping the future of respiratory care while playing a key role in patient education and care coordination.

A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00PM – 11:30PM, including rotating weekends and holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
  • Direct respiratory caregivers for delivery of care.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments and perform blood gas puncture and analysis.
  • Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License from Ohio Medical Board
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) through the American Heart Association (AHA) and/or Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) Certification when appropriate for site

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Prior experience in Critical Care and/or performing invasive procedures
  • Neonatal/pediatric experience when appropriate for site
  • Bachelor’s Degree
Physical Requirements
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.
  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $36.75

Maximum hourly: $48.55
