DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides direct nursing care, supports medical evaluations, and ensures safe and consistent health services within the facility.

As a Registered PRN Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

• Care Delivery: Administer medications, treatments, screenings, and restorative techniques as directed by clinical staff
• Health Assessment: Observe inmate conditions, identify needs, and support physicians during examinations and clinics
• Emergency Response: Provide first aid, CPR, AED support, and determine appropriate referrals during urgent situations
• Patient Support: Assist ambulatory and non ambulatory inmates with daily living tasks and hygiene needs
• Record Management: Document health information, prepare reports, and maintain controlled substance records
• Equipment Maintenance: Sterilize instruments, monitor supplies, and ensure treatment areas remain stocked

The PRN Nurse works an on-call intermittent basis in a State Correctional Institution.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Per Diem (as needed) employment.
• Work Hours: not to be scheduled more than 48 hours in a 2 week pay period.
• Per Diem employees work all shifts as needed (shifts vary).
  • 1st shift (6:00 AM - 2:30 PM)
  • 2nd shift (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM)
  • 3rd shift (10:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
• Work schedule will be discussed at time of interview.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting hourly salary of $56.48.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Special Requirements:

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• If you are within 60 days of graduating from a school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
