A sleep technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. A sleep technologist is credentialed in sleep technology and is able to provide oversight of other sleep center staff. Technicians and trainees work under the direct supervision of the credentialed sleep technologist or the medical director.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in sleep technology OR successful completion of a sleep technology program associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency for all competencies required of a sleep technician.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Related prior experience

Licenses and Certifications Required:

• Polysomnography Technologist License or Registered Sleep Technologist or Registered Respiratory Therapist Sleep Disorders Specialty.

Working Conditions:

• Extensive employee and outside contacts.

• Works indoors in a well lighted and ventilated area.
• Possibility of cuts or minor burns from instruments and equipment
• Some direct exposure to contagion, but risk is minimal when proper safety precautions are observed.
• Possibility of strains due to moving patients (or objects).

• Willingness to work with the realization that errors and incompetency may have serious consequences to patients.

Physical Demands:

• Requires constant verbal communication in person or using the phone.
• Requires frequent reading of correspondence, reports, material, etc.
• Frequently lifts objects from 10 - 150 lbs.
• Frequently lifts with assistance objects greater than 150 lbs.

Mental Demands:

• Requires ability to read and concentrate frequently to check accuracy of reports, correspondence, computer records, etc.
• Requires ability to read, understand, analyze and interpret policies and procedures.
• Requires ability to deal with stress of dealing with public, frequent interruptions, and working on more than one task concurrently.
• Requires flexibility in order to respond to changes in priorities, special project assignments, and emergency situations.
• Apply principals of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in order to provide effective patient care.
