Job summary

St. Luke's University Health Network seeks a Registered Polysomnographer to perform sleep studies and ensure high-quality data collection. The role requires current polysomnography registrations and CPR certification, with NJ licensure when applicable.

Responsibilities include sleep study scoring, setup of CPAP/BiPAP equipment, and maintaining safety and documentation. The position supports ongoing training and reliability audits within a busy sleep lab.

Qualifications

  • Must be registered polysomnography sleep technologist (RPSGT or equivalent).
  • NJ candidates must hold NJ Polysomnographic Technologist license in addition to registrations.
  • CPAP/BiPAP setup and standard polysomnography procedures are required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform essential polysomnography functions.
  • Sets up and uses nasal CPAP, BiPAP, and related monitoring equipment.
  • Acquires study data per department policy and initiates video recording as needed.
  • Scores sleep studies according to current practice parameters.
  • Maintains safety and proper handling of lab chemicals and equipment.
  • Documents findings per policy and maintains study logs.
  • Assists with training of new staff and quality checks.
  • Completes monthly interscorer reliability with the team.

Maintains a valid CPR certification at all times

The Registered Polysomnographer performs sleep studies in a technical and efficient manner and scores sleep studies according to guidelines.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of a polysomnographer

  • Demonstrates knowledge in the set-up and use of nasal CPAP, BiPAP, ASV, End Tidal CO2, Transcutaneous CO2, Home studies and oxygen

  • Acquires study data per department policies including the initiation of video taping upon patient arrival

  • Scores all in lab and home studies according to the latest practice parameters

  • Handles lab chemicals with appropriate safety precautions to self and others

  • Documents on study per policy

  • Maintains log book for all studies performed

  • Assists with training of new staff

  • Completes Interscorer Reliability by the 15th of each month

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting up to 8 hours per day in 4 hour increments. Standing up to 4 hours per day in 2 hour increments. Walking up to 2 hours per day in 15 minute increments. Frequently uses fingers to manipulate small electrodes, syringes, etc. Continuous use of hands for writing, operating equipment, etc. Occasional twisting and turning of hands and body. Occasional lifting/carrying of objects up to 25 pounds. Occasional pushing/pulling of equipment/patients up to 450 pounds. Occasional stooping/bending and reaching above shoulder level. Rarely crouches or kneels. Ability to feel needed in placing electrodes. Hearing as it pertains to normal, high, and low frequencies. Seeing as it pertains to general, near, far, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Visual monotony.

EDUCATION: Must be registered by one of the following.

Registered by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT).

Registered by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (RST).

Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT-SDS)

Another organization that offers an equivalent examination accepted by the AASM.

New Jersey Candidates -In addition to holding one of the registrations listed above, staff working in NJ also require an active NJ Polysomnographic Technologist License.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Successfully completed the requirements for registered polysomnography sleep tech.
