Job summary

Antelope Valley College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Nursing faculty position in the Health and Safety Division. The 10-month assignment includes a 15 hour per semester teaching load, plus five office hours weekly and ongoing professional responsibilities.

Qualified applicants must hold a Master’s in nursing (or equivalent per BRN) and a current CA RN license. Experience in clinical nursing and program planning is desirable; remote teaching options may be available.

Job description

DESCRIPTION

This position is a full-time tenure track, 10-month classroomteaching assignment in the Health and Safety Division. The currentteaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Facultyare also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expectedto devote as much time as necessary to perform the professionalresponsibilities of the position. Participation in professionalactivities, curriculum development and campus committees isexpected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered inonsite, online and hybrid format, evening, and/or Saturdayclasses.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

• Teach fifteen lecture hour equivalents per semester inRegistered Nursing, Health and Safety Sciences using variousteaching methods including demonstrations and active learningstrategies.
• Maintain five office hours per week, including regular postedoffice hours, which are accessible to students.
• Responsible for preparation time
• Participate in faculty/division meetings; yearly programreview; curricular planning, development, and implementation;student learning outcomes: data collection and writing actionplans, program learning outcomes, development, assessment, andimplementation; evaluation of educational programs; and collegegovernance to advance the college's mission and strategicgoals.
• Participate in faculty professional development and continuingeducation activities that are designed to maintain and developcurrency in the field, pedagogy (for traditional and onlineteaching and learning), and student support strategies, especiallyas they relate to student equity initiatives.
• Maintain records of attendance, census, grades, etc.
• Provide an environment conducive to effective learning.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective workingrelationships with all employees and others encountered in thecourse of work.
• Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverseacademic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity,sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community collegestudents.
• Travel between District locations is also expected.
• Performs other instructional-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(Applicant must meet one of the following)

• Master’s degree in nursing OR bachelor’s degree innursing AND master’s degree in health education or healthscience OR the equivalent OR minimum qualificationsas set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever ishigher.

• Current California RN License or eligibility for licensure bythe California Board of Registered Nursing.
• Must have one year of full-time experience in acute care(hospital) setting within the last 5 years or must be willing andable to remediate or currently approved by the California Board ofRegistered Nursing to teach medical-surgical nursing, and one ormore of the following: maternity nursing, pediatric nursing, psychmental-health and/or geriatric nursing.
  
  

• In addition, successful candidate(s) may be required toremediate to (become approved to teach) other areas ofnursing.
  
  

• Antelope Valley College Equivalency: Equivalency notneeded, per division faculty.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters degree in Nursing Education or higher.
• Professional Registered Nursing experience of 5 years or more.
• Minimum of at least one (1) year of experience teaching coursesrelated to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureatecourse that includes practice in teaching registered nursing (ifthere is a practicum teaching RN student, practicum can be countedtowards the one required year).
