Joining this fast-paced team means joining a Surgical Unit with 25 private patient rooms, three bariatric patient rooms, an orthopedic rehabilitation gym, and a therapeutic tub training area. This comprehensive surgical floor is designed to centralize treatments and shorten recovery times. In this role you will work 3, 12-hour night shifts per week.

Position Summary

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice. The role is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction. It utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data and plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.

Core Functions

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures completion within the appropriate timeframe. Reviews diagnostics and laboratory data and reports abnormal results to the physician(s) and other caregivers. Completes assessment and reassessments as needed and per policy.
• Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, using assessment data and input from patient, family and health team. Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs and the medical plan of care. Sets realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with patient/family. Plans care with the multidisciplinary team and revises the plan based on patient status.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the health care team. Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and standards. Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision to other licensed staff. Communicates patient status to other caregivers to promote continuity of care.
• Evaluates the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching, and revises the plan of care as needed. Monitors progress toward goals and outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely and aligned with policy. Records reflect objective/subjective data, interventions and patient response. Notes physician orders accurately and promptly.
• Provides care based on the best available evidence and may participate in clinical practice research. Participates in unit or facility leadership and supports the education and orientation of staff, patients, families and visitors. Encourages growth through mentoring when appropriate.
• Contributes to outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable and safe care. Participates in improving nursing quality indicators and may engage in professional organizations.
• In some roles, may supervise staff and workflow within the department. Interacts with various stakeholders to coordinate care and support patient and family needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a current, valid RN license in the state of practice, or compact licensure for the state of practice. BLS certification is required. Additional certifications or continuing education may be required based on area of practice. Related experience in the clinical area is preferred. Banner Registry and Travel acute care positions require a minimum of one year of acute care hospital experience. Experience must include recent acute care practice in the specialty area. Home Health requires valid driver's license and active auto insurance. Some Banner Behavioral Health roles in Arizona require additional clearance cards as specified by state regulation.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree is preferred. Professional certification is preferred.
