Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Surgical Intermediate unit on the night shift. This 24-hour per week (0.6 FTE) position requires a current Illinois RN license and BLS certification.

The role emphasizes direct patient care in a 26-bed unit with complex surgical cases and an emphasis on evidence-based practice. The candidate should be prepared to work 7pm–7:30am with rotating weekends and participate in shared governance and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
• Analytical abilities and attention to detail.
• ADN is acceptable with commitment to obtain BSN within three years of employment.

Responsibilities

• Collects and analyzes data, identifies outcomes and develops an individualized plan.

Part time Nights 7pm-7;30am with rotating weekends

• 26-bed unitdesigned to provide treatment, care, and service to adult patients with acute medical, surgical and cardiac conditions specializing in complicated surgeries.
• Patient population will includebut are not limited toesophagectomies, whipples, surgical-oncology cases, high-volume liposuction, multi-level spinal fusions, and vascular cases. Other opportunities for this unit will be any surgical patients that require a medication drip that is not appropriate for the medical-surgical inpatient unit.
• This unit will also be open to medical step-down and overflow patients to enhance hospital throughput.
• Direct care of the 2A patients will be provided by registered nurses with an ideal ratio of 1:3-4 patients for step down level of care.

A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to the acutely ill patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. Effectively interacts with patient, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice.

Responsibilities:

• Collects and analyzes data, identifies expected outcomes, develops and implements an individualized plan, coordinates care delivery and evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
• Directs care and determines the appropriate utilization of any assistant involved in providing direct patient care.
• Collaborates with patient, family, physicians and ancillary staff. Creates a documented plan, focused on outcomes and decisions related to the care and delivery of services that indicates communications with patients, families, and others.
• Participates in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
• Evaluates and documents the patient’s responses to nursing interventions in the health record and properly individualizes the plan of care based on the evaluation of findings.
• Utilizes the best available evidence, including research findings to guide practice decisions.

*Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in clinical nurse role.
