Job summary

Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the SICU at Rochester General Hospital. This role provides high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment collaborating with a interdisciplinary team to care for critically ill surgical patients.

You will assess, plan, implement and document care, maintain BLS, and pursue ongoing education and research activities while contributing to excellent patient and family experiences.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing is required.
• RN license in New York State (as per listings).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides high-quality, patient-centered clinical care.
• Performs initial and ongoing patient assessment.
• Communicates assessment findings to the interdisciplinary team.
• Develops and documents an individualized plan of care.
• Follows safety, medication, and documentation policies.
• Revises care plan based on ongoing evaluation and updates.
• Completes CRU form using a recent US-based article.
• Completes at least 5 nationally approved contact hours annually.
• Completes mandatory in-services and health screens timely.
• Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

SICU/Neurocritical Care Unit is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment dedicated to caring for critically ill patients with complex, life-threatening surgical illnesses and injuries. Nurses have the opportunity to build a diverse and highly specialized skill set while caring for patients from a wide range of services, including General Surgery, Thoracic, Vascular, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Stroke, GYN/Oncology, and Obstetrics. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides high-quality, patient-centered, clinical care
• Performs initial and ongoing assessment of the patient, utilizing appropriate data (i.e. physical, psychological, educational and risk-screen data appropriate for the chronological / developmental age of the patient).
• Communicates and documents assessment of patient with the interdisciplinary team. Utilizes all available resources in order to meet the needs of the patient and family.
• Develops and documents plan of care, treatment and services which is individualized and appropriate for the patient needs, strengths, limitations and goals.
• Complies with organizational policies, procedures and protocols including policies governing safety, medication administration and documentation.
• Revises plan of care based on ongoing evaluations and updates documentation appropriately.
• Completes at least one clinical research utilization (CRU) form for submission to Nursing Research Department utilizing a research article from the last 5 years from research performed in the United States. Compliance
• Completes a minimum of 5 nationally approved contact hours (CNE or CEU) per year.
• Completes mandatory in-services and health screens in timely manner.
• Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing
• Registered Nurse license in New York State.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
• At least 6 months RN experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.
