University of Maryland Medical System's Magnet-designated Surgical Acute Care unit in Baltimore is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join a 24-bed post-surgical unit. You will lead care teams, coordinate multidisciplinary patient care, and deliver high-quality postoperative nursing across multiple services.

Ideal candidates hold Maryland RN licensure (or eligible via Compact), maintain ongoing education, and bring recent clinical experience in a comparable setting.

Qualifications

  • Must be a registered nurse licensed in Maryland or eligible to practice under the Compact.
  • Maintain at least 10 contact hours of education per year.
  • Member of a professional organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor nursing staff as charge nurse or clinical resource.
  • Coordinate independent patient care within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide postoperative care and support across surgical services.

Nurses working on the Surgical Acute Care unit pride themselves on providing outstanding care. We coordinate independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective participative member of multidisciplinary patient care service team.

The Surgical Acute Care Unit Is a 24 Bed Post-surgical Unit Designated For The Care And Management Of Patients From Various Surgical Services. Scope Of Service Includes But Is Not Limited To

  • continuous cardiac monitoring
  • continuous oxygen saturations
  • drain management
  • wound management

Patients are admitted following surgical procedures via intra-hospital transfer from:

  • IMC
  • ICU
  • PACU
  • Direct admissions through Express Care/Critical Care Resuscitation Unit (CCRU).

The Surgical Acute Care Unit Serves As The Primary Postoperative Designation For The Following Specialty Surgical Services, Including But Not Limiting To

  • Surgical Oncology
  • Gynecology Neoplasia
  • Gynecology
  • Urology
  • Acute Care Emergency Surgery
  • General Surgery
  • Otolaryngology
  • Oral Maxillary Facial
  • Plastic Surgery

Work Experience
Education and Experience
  • Competent evaluation with successful passing of probation; current on all mandatory classes/training.
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required.
  • Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education/year.
  • Member of a professional organization.
  • Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others, such as effectiveness as charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource. Demonstrated effectiveness as a multidisciplinary team member.
  • Ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  • Demonstrated/documented highly effective interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
Patient Safety
  • Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
  • Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
  • Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
