Job summary

Novant Health's Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Post-Surgical Acute Care unit on a full-time night shift (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM). This role cares for post-operative and medically complex patients, emphasizing recovery, monitoring, and education before discharge.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current RN licensure in the appropriate state required.
• One year relevant experience preferred.
• If RN license was inactive for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state in the last five years, complete a Board-approved refresher course before reactivating license.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to post-surgical and medically complex patients.
• Monitor and assess patients recovering from various surgeries.
• Manage wound care, drains, NG tubes, and other post-operative treatments.
• Administer IV meds, blood products, anticoagulants, and tube feedings.
• Assess and manage pain, ensuring patient comfort and recovery.
• Monitor for complications and relay changes to the care team.
• Educate patients and families on recovery, medications, and discharge plans.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
• Document assessments and interventions in the EMR.
• Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care to support safe transitions home.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

• Manage wound care, surgical drains, NG tubes, and other post‑operative treatments.
• Administer IV medications, blood transfusions, anticoagulants, and tube feedings.
• Assess and manage pain while promoting patient comfort and recovery.
• Monitor for complications and communicate changes in patient condition to the care team.
• Educate patients and families on recovery expectations, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress in the electronic medical record.
• Deliver compassionate, patient‑centered care that supports safe transitions home.

What We’re Looking For

• Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.
• Experience: One year relevant experience, preferred.
• Licensure/certification/registration: Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
