Job summary

St. Tammany Health System in Covington, LA, is seeking a Perioperative RN to provide care for patients undergoing operative and invasive procedures. The RN will plan and direct patient care and supervise the surgical team.

The role requires NLN-accredited nursing education, LA RN license, and BLS/ALS certifications, with CNOR preferred. Shifts are Monday–Friday 6:15a–2:45p with call for weekends and holidays; in-house availability within 30 minutes when on call is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a NLN accredited school of nursing; current LA RN license; BLS required or obtained during orientation; ALS required within 6 months of hire; able to work flexible shifts and take call according to unit specific standards.
• Current BLS and ALS certifications through ILCOR-provided courses (e.g., AHA, Red Cross) and must include a manikin check off.

Job Description And Position Requirements

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Work Shift: (Monday through Friday) 6:15a to 2:45p. Call required weekends, nights, and holidays.

Summary of the Job:

Responsible and accountable for a group of patients during a designated time frame and to provide care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. The Perioperative RN is accountable for planning & directing the care of every patient undergoing operative & invasive procedures. The Perioperative RN directs & supervises the surgical team members.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate from a NLN accredited school of nursing; current LA RN license; BLS required or obtained during orientation; ALS required within 6 months of hire; able to work flexible shifts and take call according to unit specific standards. Current BLS and ALS (Advanced Life Support) certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.

One year Surgery RN experience required but minimum of two years’ Surgery RN experience preferred. Acute Care facility, surgery experience preferred. CNOR Certification preferred.

The Perioperative RN must be available in-house within 30 minutes when on call.

Physical Demands:

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Physical Effort required:

Constant (67%-100%) - reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing

Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching

Occasionally (1%-33%) - climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), balancing, crawling
