MO-SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital - St. Charles

Job Overview

Registered Nurse – Surgery (Unit/Location: Surgery). Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8‑hour shifts starting at either 6:00 AM or 6:30 AM. On‑call requirement: 3–4 nights per month, including weekend and holiday calls on a rotating schedule.

Preferred Qualifications: Operating Room (OR) experience. Sign‑On Bonus may be available for eligible external candidates.

Job Summary

Delivers professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Performs scrub functions including selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during the procedure.
  • Performs circulating functions: monitoring, recording, and communicating patient condition; manages overall nursing care before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Assists operating physician with surgical tasks, including hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
  • Prepares operating rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment for use.
  • Applies evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge to nursing practice, ensuring care is based on the patient’s age‑specific and clinical needs as described in the department’s Scope of Service.
  • Demonstrates professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model and uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to current and evolving health and nursing needs.
  • Maintains a constant state of alertness and performs tasks safely.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent education for licensing.

Experience: No experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant use of speech for oral communication.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying/pushing of objects weighing 0–25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, and to identify colors.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and hear alarms or machinery.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying/pushing of objects weighing 25–50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling and running.

Required Professional Licenses and Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) – Missouri Division of Professional Registration or RN issued by a Compact State
